Gaurav Tophakhane started off as a photographer for numerous Indian brands and also went on to shoot a lot of musicians with his camera. After capturing musicians for years, Gaurav decided to create his own music. In the process, he established the pop-rock band Skylight Vision and performed in some of the biggest music festivals across India. The band has been on hiatus since 2017 and Gaurav has been working on a solo project since then. After releasing a slew of wonderful tracks, Gaurav Tophakhane is back with his latest offering “Chup Chup”, and that’s the song we are reviewing here.
“Chup Chup” is a peppy alt pop number that is embellished by some terrific trumpets. While the trumpets are definitely the highlight of the songs, the wonderfully strummed guitar layers add a lot more zing to this already very zingy track. Lyrically, “Chup Chup” is all about living for today and not dwelling on the past and the future. It’s a call to arms to seize the day and just live your life to the fullest. The very best way to live your life is to approach each day with a fully renewed vigour that is unencumbered by the trials and tribulation of yesterday or any trepidation towards tomorrow.
Musically, the song has a very upbeat and exciting pop arrangement. Panic! At the Disco have proven with songs like “High Hopes” and “Say Amen (Saturday Night)” that a pop hit can successfully include trumpets. And with “Chup Chup”, Gaurav Tophakhane has proven that an indie hit can also have trumpets. The top notch production does give this song a well produced, mainstream pop vibe which can broaden its appeal in an incredibly massive manner.
Gaurav doesn’t seem like the kind of person who will blow his trumpets for himself, so we will do it for him. “Chup Chup” is a fun, enjoyable song with a very important message for anyone mired in the past and the future- the present is all that matters. Jee le tu zara.
Verdict: Play it loud.
