An Indian singer, songwriter and composer, Anirudh Deshmukh is an up-and-coming Indie Musician with immense potential. A writing style with easily relatable lyrics and his soothing compositions define Anirudh’s music, which is inspired by real life situations. With over three years of experience in the live gigs and performances scene across Mumbai, Anirudh Deshmukh recently stepped into the world of independent music with his debut release “Besabriyaan” in December 2020. He is back with his follow up single “Rehnuma” and that’s what we are reviewing here.
“Rehnuma” is a song about fading love, a slow acoustic ballad where the lyrics are accentuated and brought to life by a simple arrangement with the piano and flute. In the words of Anirudh Deshmukh himself:
“Rehnuma inches forward the story told in Besabriyaan. It builds on the first song in a way where it becomes an interlude between Besabriyaan and what will be the third release (scheduled for later this year). Rehnuma is a story about fading love and will be relevant for anyone who has loved and felt the loss of that love. The song does pack a surprise within it and I am excited to see how the listeners will react to it”.
With “Rehnuma”, Anirudh Deshmukh has created a work that suggests complexity. However, it’s not based on the number of notes he plays, it’s more about the feelings behind those notes. It is an ode to the latent power of acoustic music, a peek into the wonder that exists within the wood and the steel.
Anirudh Deshmukh’s softer indie style effortlessly combines his clear, warm and tender voice with an eloquent, poetic lyric-writing strength. On “Rehnuma”, Anirudh breathes words into life and feelings into existence. It is bound to impress the fans of his previous work, but it will also serve as an excellent primer to those who are listening to him for the first time.
Verdict: Velvety.
