Little Babooshka’s Grind are going to groove their way into your consciousness. Chennai’s very own suddenly have multiple missions. For starters, they will be South India’s representatives at the Ray Ban Never Hide Sound Contest in Mumbai on December 4th.
Which was a tall order in itself, and they were put through an audition, before being voted into the top 5, ahead of 170-odd other bands, on the back of their new single, Big Words. They will now rock out at the aforementioned grand finale, to be staged at the Bandra Ampitheatre, along with the other 4 nominees and indie-rock luminaries like Pentagram and Something Relevant.
Even before they can lay claim to that winning prize of a Rs. 50,000 gift voucher from Furtado’s on offer, it’s been announced that LBG’s Arjun Janakiram will be amongst other musicians from the winning band, recording a single with hot shot VJ, Luke Kenny. The song will be canned at the YashRaj studios in Mumbai, presumably sometime after the finale. There will be a music video too, accompanying the single release.
Whatever happens there, pondering over it definitely isn’t on the cards as LBG will be back home to perform an hour-long acoustic set on Chennai 104.8 FM, guesting on a show called “Out of the Box” with Rohan Sen. That’s on 16th December, between 5 and 6 in the evening, so mark those calendars. Set an alarm even.
If you still manage to miss that, your second chance presents itself a week later, as LBG will perform at Fusion 9 on 23rd December.
They won’t be gone for long after that – just long enough for you to have regurgitated your Yuletide alcohol. 2012 will see them back, on a bigger, bolder quest; a national tour in support of their upcoming album, Wake Up And Break Up, which will, of course, be also out soon.
So, Little Babooshka’s diving right into the grind. One supposes there are a whole lot of prizes and hordes of new converts waiting to greet them on the other side.
Step 1, listen in.
