Sky Rabbit & All Things New

Hot off the stage after a fabulous year of gigging, with striking performances at this year’s Bacardi NH7 Weekender and at various live venues, one of Mumbai’s favourite indie acts, Sky Rabbit, are set to end the year with some great news.

The four-piece post-punk, indie band, formerly known as Medusa, will be launching their first self-titled album on 10th January, 2012. The band kicks off on a multi-city album launch tour from 15th December that will span Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune and Delhi among other cities.

The band members Raxit (Vocals/Samples), Rahul (Guitar/Samples), Siddharth (Bass) and Harsh(Drums) have worked on this album over the last one year with co-producer Ashish Manchanda of Flying Carpet Productions, who is a renowned sound mixing and recording engineer for various Bollywood and Hollywood movies, some including The Chronicles of Narnia (2005), Dev D (2009) and the currently popular music TV show, MTV Unplugged.

EMI Virgin Records India have been brought on board to support their debut album, with marketing and distribution subsumed under their record label. Besides a music store release on the 10th, the song will also be available as a digital download on iTunes and other online platforms.

Sky Rabbit will give their fans an exclusive advantage to purchase the album at their various launch gigs across December/January, before its official release in stores.

The 9-track album is a set of tightly constructed tracks that blend synthetic textures with more organic instrumentation, creating a sound that is bold, experimental and ultimately captivating.

The complete tracklist is –

  • Anti-coke Ganpati
  • Oil
  • March
  • Sweet smile diving
  • Swimmer
  • I Become I
  • Try
  • Clone
  • Hilltop

Sometimes it starts with a loop, sometimes it starts off a single riff on an acoustic guitar. And then everything around it falls into place. And they have gradually developed this sound into a multi-layered genre, one that’s unique to their band – mellow, intense and happy all at once — complemented with great lyrics that usually take inspiration from the band members’ personal space and opinion.

Allegedly this new album symbolises the beginning of a new brand of music that the band has evolved over the last few years — completely removed from the progressive metal days of Medusa.

And the rechristening of the band was the final touch needed to complete their old musical journey and start the new one. This self-titled album represents Sky Rabbit’s evolution from an engaging live act to a band that’s equally capable in the studio, with a quid pro quo of creativity and dexterity.
