Soneya Ve by Shreya Sharma Marks a Remarkable Outing of The Singer as a Composer: Score Indie Reviews

Reviewer Rating:

(3.5)

Soaring high from his first commercial hit called ‘Duppata’ from the hit movie JugJugg Jeeyo, Shreya Sharma is here to stay with her outstanding vocals and singing range. Her voice fits like a glove with high-tempo songs as well as dance numbers which can make her the next big thing in Bollywood. This time she has made an outing with her song ‘Soneya Ve’ where she, for the first time besides being the singer, has also composed the song as well.

Demonstrating her grasp over the current music trends while imbuing her own style of singing, ‘Soneya Ve’ is a song that is very catchy and has an irresistible hook. Using the immensely popular genre of music that has taken the world by storm, Afrobeat, the song also has influences of Bollywood music. The fact that Afrobeat suits a dance number with Hindi and Punjabi lyrics is a revelation and serves as an excellent combination.

The lyrics will get you hooked as they talk about love without any restrictions and warnings. As the hook lines state, “Forget about the world and come closer to me”, the electrifying yet sublime beats do prompt the listener to come closer to the song as well. The song has a likeability that makes the whole track reminiscent of the blurry nights spent dancing away the blues with friends or a lover in a club.

The music video is a bit bland, with limited shots and the use of changing neon lights. The closeups and dancing in the video seems very typical and mainstream as well. Though the song has good vocals which seem singular to the singer but a new punch is missing which could have made the song top the charts since it showcases full potential.

Verdict: Peppy, Upbeat, Groovy
