Opeth To Headline Summer Storm 2012 In Bangalore

The second Summer Storm festival, destined for Bangalore on 5th February 2012, just got hotter with the announcement that Swedish progressive giants, Opeth, will be the festival headliners.

A few months back, Opeth released their tenth album Heritage to widespread fanfare and acclaim. This is the latest milestone in a still-evolving twenty-year-old career, in which time they’ve come up with their own brew of progressive metal, with the hard rock ethos of Led Zep and Deep Purple garnishing their dark, doom-laden Scandinavian occult metal influences.

Here’s something from their Heritage;

In this time they’ve been to India several times too – not in the least because of their legions of devotees in the country. But their gig at Summer Storm promises to dwarf those other appearances in terms of sheer magnitude, with the festival itself having cemented a heady reputation in its debut year with a sell out headlining gig by Lamb Of God.

That was last year, when Summer Storm was even rated the top music festival of the year. The organizers, Bangalore-based event specialists Overture, want to build up on that to their avowed aim of establishing Summer Storm as the biggest rock festival in the country. They fully seem to understand the commerce behind our periodic need to just vent some fury, and go a little heavy metal primal.

Summerstorm starts at 3pm & will first have Indian bands Theorized & Eccentric Pendulum taking stage. This will be followed by German heavyweights SuidAkra (driving down from VIT) & Nothnegal (from Male)

It’s going to loud. And legendary. And we’re most definitely going to be there m/
