‘On the backs of Angels’ is the first single from ‘A Dramatic Turn of Events’ which releases on September 13th.

The planet’s favourite Progressive Metal band are back, better than anticipated and in definitive form. Mike Mangini, the newest member of the crew who was auditioned among 7 of the best drummers in the scene, proves his worth for all the world to see. The 9 minute track reveals that the band has now found a new-fangled chemistry but still (fortunately) exhibits their trademark songwriting.

 Although Mangini’s trademark chops aren’t exhibited, he maintains ‘simplicity'( so to speak). Jordan Rudess’s classical influences couldn’t have been more prevalent while La Brie stays in his comfort zone of ballad based vocal lines.

“I’m incredibly psyched with the way this album came out and can’t wait to share it with everybody,” said John Petrucci, the guitarist who also produced the album.
“We have poured our hearts and minds into the creation of this album,” keyboardist Jordan Rudess said. “All the life-changing events that surrounded us before, as well as during the whole process, fueled our desire to dig deep within ourselves and create the best music we possibly could.”

Nothing more can be said of how ‘A Dramatic Turn of Events’ might sound like but the single, however avoids hairy complexities and delivers quite straightforwardly. Too much talk? Listen to it…
