Asees Kaur is the third most streamed female artist on Spotify in India. She comes from the historic city of Panipat, in Haryana, and started singing when she was five and received training by Ustad Puran Shahkoti. She has worked with renowned labels like T-Series, Zee Music and Universal Music and can sing anything from a soulful track to an energetic dance number.
She has won awards like the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer, ‘Upcoming Female Vocalist Of The Year’ and ‘The Most Streamed Song’. With sheer hard work, dedication and a persistent spirit; Asees is one of the most successful artists to trend on most streaming platforms and has more than 5 billion views and plays to attribute to her success. Her latest track “Aaya Jado Da” has been setting streaming platforms on fire and that’s what we are reviewing here.
“Aaya Jado Da” tells the love story between what appears to be a woman belonging to royalty (portrayed by Parul Gulati in the music video) and a man who appears to be an outsider (portrayed by Aparshakti Khurana). The music and the video constantly tells a story of love blossoming against the face of what’s considered “acceptable”.
Throughout “Aayo Jado Da”, Asees Kaur tells the story where the couple distills the class barriers and enjoys their love within the walls of a snooty, elitist culture. In that respect it is both a celebration and a challenge: a celebration of love in all its imperfect and indomitable glory and a challenge that arises when people with distinctively different backgrounds fall in love.
One might assume the lyrics alone would be the highlight on “Aaya Jado Da”, and they are indeed touching. However, Asees Kaur’s performance takes it to the next level. She has added a lot of gravity to these words and put forward a special effort. Highly recommended.
