The MTV Europe Music Awards is a jamboree that the music world can’t avoid. It’s about taking the American pizzazz across the pond and giving the Europeans an up-and-close look at it.
The latest edition was hosted by Belfast, at the Odyssey arena, which the Irish believe will be a huge leg-up for the city and the country. Andrew Irvine, the manager of Belfast city centre, believes the afterglow from this will radiate far and wide and long. We hope so.
It was a gala event, surely, with performances from Brian May, Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber as well as his lady, and host for the evening, popstar Selena Gomez. The nakedness added had its evening out too, with Lady Gaga taking an opportunity during her performance to moon the audience.
There was also talk of David Hasselhoff’s testicles, before a streaker completed the motif with a sprint across the stage while Hayden Pannetiere was up there, presenting an award.
