Art connoisseurs rejoice. Preperations aside, Svanubhava 2012 is scheduled to happen on August 1 – 3 in Chennai.
For those of you unaware, Svanubhava is a celebration of Indian art, a cultural movement for the students, by the students. Svanubhava is the perfect place to be if you’re an art or dance student.

Svanubhava was conceptualized in 2008 with the intention of spreading awareness about the diverse world of Indian Art, introducing students to the various art forms of the country. The festival aims to involve students of music and dance institutions, private and public educational institutions, and in the process, create hubs of student communities where they can feel a sense of belonging and nurture their passion towards the Indian art forms. According to the organizers of the festival, the thrust areas of Svanubhava are:
- To create a community of students of the performing arts and instill in them a sense of ownership, belonging and pride, breaking all barriers of institutions and styles.
- To provide students with an opportunity to directly interact and learn from great artists, as such opportunities are not generally available to the students.
- To develop a sense of respect and mutual understanding amongst students towards the various art forms.
- To create a future generation that will contribute to the Indian performing arts, irrespective of their own pursuits.

Svanubhava over the years has seen several venues. Originating in Chennai, Svanubhava has also been presented in New Delhi & Trichy. The Delhi edition was organized in partnership with The Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and featured several performances such as Nadaswaram by Shri Vyasarpadi Kothandaraman, Odissi by Smt Sudha Mukhopadhyay, Carnatic Vocal Concert by Shri Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, Therukoothu – Traditional Tamil Theatre, and Hindustani Vocal by Smt Manjusha Patil.

The Trichy edition of the festival was held at Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College. Some of the performances included Harikatha by Smt Visakha Hari, Carnatic Flute Concert by Sri S. Shashank, Carnatic Vocal Concert by Sri N. Vijay Siva, Karagam by Students of Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College, Bharatanatyam by Smt. Priyadarsini Govind, and Tamil Theatre by Sri Crazy Mohan & Group.

This year’s edition will be organized in Chennai on with the support of the premier dance and music institute – Kalakshetra. The announced dates are from August 1 – 3.
