Realizing a long-held dream would feel sweet. But for Sandeep Chowta, B-town’s own intrepid musical traveller, it’s more of a way of life.
The man, who has composed music for Tamil and Hindi movies, is presently toasting a new milestone; his collaborative track with International band, Spyro Gyra, has debuted at No.2 on the Billboard Jazz charts.
The real icing here, though, is that Sandeep finally got to work with the band he has loved since he was in school.
Him having worked with a few members of Spyro Gyra before, probably paved the way before Sandeep was actually approached by the band in Toronto earlier this year, with an offer to record for their newest album.
Jazz happens to be Sandeep Chowta’s not-so-secret obsession; something he can trace back to his father and uncle. What he loves about the music, he notes, is the constant refurbishing of imagination required in improvisational art.
“It’s jazz that teaches you freedom of expression”, Chowta believes. But this hasn’t stopped him from being commercially successful in his role as a music director in movies. “I’ve learned not to be biased to any genre. I realized, that when I’m exposed to a new genre, it helps me grow”.
I bet that’s not really Vishal Dadlani’s excuse.
Anyway, here’s a recent video of his with Sukhwinder Singh and Katrina Kaif
And a video from not so long ago that really makes us yearn for a Channel V
that had no reality shows. Where are such gems these days?!
Bet he really hates Mallika, now. Snicker snicker.
