Ashwin Vinayagamoorthy’s Summertime Kadhal is an upbeat track with an energetic video to follow
Reminiscing a lovely summer is definitely on everybody’s list of ‘favourite things to do’. Ashwin is no exception to this. And his summer is quite eventful. He writes about ‘that one woman who you’ll never forget’ and his song tries to capture the emotions that come with it all. Musically the song tries to stick to a tried-and-tested formula and has a video to match.
Beat driven and groove driven music is increasing in popularity and ‘trap beat’ sounds are the talk of the town. Ashwin’s music has a traditional beat going with a simple bassline to sit under it all and he does have some catchy vocal hooks.
However, it does fall into the trap of sticking to the formula too much. It tends to lack in variety and has a tendency of being monotonous. It is groovy and upbeat to get moving to but musically, it falls short of being a varied experience. The end does have a good bit of rhythmic variations going and it does make it a lot more lively and interesting. But it could use a bit more spice to it.
Can’t have main-course without a dessert. So the video that accompanies the song is a real treat for the car enthusiasts out there. Taking centre stage are two striking Lamborghinis (a Huracan and a Gallardo for the detail oriented) and boy do they get your attention; which is what Lamborghinis are good at doing. It’s a music video that would be in-line with a movie song. Which is a great way to place this song in the sonic landscape at large. It is a great song for a movie because it checks all the boxes of movie music.
