Andrea Jeremiah is an Indian actress, playback singer, and musician who works predominantly in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films. She began her career as a playback singer, and has subsequently appeared in films in a supporting or lead role. Despite her successful acting career, Andrea Jeremiah has stated that her focus was always on music, that she chose to be a professional singer and that acting happened by chance.
In 2005, she ventured into playback singing in feature films. She has sung several popular songs for composers such as Harris Jayaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Anirudh Ravichander, Thaman, Devi Sri Prasad and G. V. Prakash Kumar and has also received nominations at Filmfare and Vijay Awards for a few of them.
Apart from singing under other composers’ direction, Jeremiah also produces her own music. She composed, wrote and sang a single, “Soul of Taramani”, as a promo for her Tamil romantic-drama Taramani. She has composed several music themes, songs and albums. She is back with her latest track “Darkest Before Dawn” and that’s what we are reviewing here.
“Darkest Before Dawn” is a great song featuring a stellar performance from Andrea Jeremiah. The melody is strong and tuneful. Andrea Jeremiah’s vocal tone is as attractive as ever and she infuses the lyrics with a lot of feeling. The lyrics are interesting and meaningful with some punchy phrases. The rich instrumental accompaniment compliments the track wonderfully well.
Whether you just want to drift away in the rousing vocals and musical ambience or dig into Andrea Jeremiah’s lyrical concerns, the track offers many rewards and, while it may confront the lows of life, it also embraces the high points. Reminding us as she sings this line- cos nothing is so wrong you can’t make it right.
Verdict: Uplifting.
