After his stint at the reality show ‘The Stage’ and a successful debut record Songs ‘From A Matchbox’, Raghav Meattle is on his way to become the poster boy of Indian indie music. The Bombay-based singer-songwriter who usually composes feel-good acoustic ballads, recently came out with his new single City Life.
Those who follow Meattle’s work might have heard the song last year, when he performed it on comedian Abish Matthew’s web talk show. But now, he has released the single with a cinematic vintage-style video that captures ‘city life’ in all its glory. The song is inspired by Meattle’s own life in Mumbai and its hustle and bustle, but the lyrics seem to be relatable to any busy city. That’s where Meattle’s work shines; one doesn’t need to use too much grey matter to interpret this song. City Life is insightful without being too philosophical in its approach.
Even though after the pandemic and the current lockdowns, city life does seem to be at a halt but Meattle’s song does echo a bittersweet tone of the urban jungle. In fact, we have seen quite a lot of covers of this song by various artists during this time. The pop singer has shown yet again that he can bring out a certain charm out of sheer simplicity.
