The iconic Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) is back in its 22nd consecutive year; even bigger than ever, where it aims to land over 20,000 festival-goers from near and far and visiting tourists alike through a three-day culture-filled weekend from 12 to 14 July 2019. This premier event will be held at Sarawak Cultural Village, Kuching which is approximately 50 minutes away from the Kuching International Airport.
The RWMF 2019 is indeed the perfect getaway for music aficionados to soak in the spectacular beats of local indigenous musicians and world-renowned musicians from many continents while indulging the senses in the heart of nature. The RWMF 2019 has lined-up newcomers from various countries namely; The Ainu people of Japan hailing from the snow-capped state of Hokkaido, the Nagaland people from North India, Canary Island, the spiritual and mysterious Bhutan, the islands of Mauritius and Jamaica, Estonia in Northern Europe and from life’s rich tapestry that is The West Kalimantan Dayaks.
The RWMF 2019 gathers 39 bands with 9 emerging bands performing on stage, 69 performances, 27 lifestyle & wellness sessions and musicians of about 27 different nationalities worldwide. The day time percussion tutorials and music workshops begin as early as 11:00 am. Family-friendly sessions come with an accent on participation – accompanying with a host of cultural and crafts display, a smorgasbord of unique culinary offerings, an interactive gathering of the tribes, the exhilarating and famous drum circle, the Indigenous Stage; focusing on “Raw and Ritual” music, the main-stage evening concerts and ends the day as late as 2:00 am with the DJ stage performance, which sums up a wholesome festival for all.
While gathering to celebrate Nature, Culture and Music, Sarawak sets itself apart by living what it preaches – to showcase Sarawak in an environmentally-friendly and sustainable way by emphasizing preservation. Through its Green initiatives, a no-plastic ruling, will be the festival’s core awareness while banning entry of all plastic water bottles throughout the festival.
