Through the most auspicious dates in the Tamil calendar, Artseek and Brandwise have combined to give you a chance to taste a bit of tradition this Pongal, all in support of the Satz Foundation.
The Pongal Sandhai models itself after the tradition village fairs that have been the usual culmination of the harvest festivities during Pongals of yore in farming villages. It is scheduled for four days over the Pongal weekend between 14th and 17th of January.
Each day will host it’s own special-themed day long carnival, bringing back traditional entertainment arts, like Villupaatu on the first day and Thodumbaatam on the last, apart from being a hotbed of activity with stalls selling favourites like Jigarthanda and Thallu Kadai, as well as more mundane items like gifts and clothing.
La Pongal, the band that performs under the Artseek umbrella, will also grace the event, with a concert scheduled for the third day, preceded by a program of Thappattam and Periamelam. They will also conveniently use the occasion to reveal their latest album, so lots of scoops to be had here.

Apart from the hullabaloo, the true intent of this entire thoroughfare is to support the Satz Foundation, named after Satz Moses, the late founder and CEO of Helios Outsourcing, which promotes the charitable NGO registry. The foundation is involved in an inexhaustible effort to educate underprivileged children.
The fair motif will also include numerous contests for the participants, like Fancy Dress, Balloon Shooting, Horse Riding and Wheel Of Fortune.
So, wear something pristine and make your way to Wesley School grounds, Near Express Avenue Mall, Opp. to Woodlands theater, West Cott Road, Royapettah, on the allotted dates and enjoy a Pongal closer to heritage.
