Remember Shakti are heading to India this February for a 6-city exhibition of their classical world fusion, descended from the strains of jazz and Carnatic music.
And their version is as authentic as it gets, fronted as they are by world’s two original fusionistas; guitarist John McLaughlin and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain. This new set up is essentially a reincarnation of Shakti, the famously oriental jazz ensemble from the ‘70s, that McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain had also been a part of.
Remember Shakti’s onstage lineup now includes, apart from Zakir Hussain and John McLaughlin, U Srinivas on mandolin, ghatam exponent V Selvaganesh and singer Shankar Mahadevan, who’s been in the band since 2001.
Their schedule is –
February 5 at Ganesh Kala Kreeda Manch, Pune
February 7 at Shanmukhananda Auditorium, Mumbai
February 9 at Palace Grounds, Bangalore
February 10 at Lalit Palace Ground, Hyderabad
February 11 at Music Akademy Hall, Chennai
February 12 at King George School, Mumbai
Tickets are priced at Rs 750, Rs 1000, Rs 2000, Rs 3000 and Rs 5000 and are already on sale online at bookmyshow.com.
