The duo will release a single, to commemorate the one billionth meal served by non-governmental organization Akshaya Patra.
Mahadevan has also become the brand ambassador of the organization. “I am very happy to be associated with Akshaya Patra, as the cause is very close to my heart and something that I have always wanted to do – feed children,” he said.
The NGO serves more than 1.3 million children of over 9,000 schools in 10 states every day. It runs mid-day school feeding programs in partnership with the federal and participating state governments of India.
Akshaya Patra (USA) CEO and president Madhu Sridhar said, “Javed Akhtar and Shankar Mahadevan teaming up for the Akshaya Patra children – it will be a powerful message with a powerful voice to ensure hunger is not a barrier to education for these deserving children.”
