Ilaiyaraaja’s Compositions At London Olympics 2012 Inaugural Ceremony

After being bestowed with numerous honours in the past, acclaimed music composer Ilaiyaraaja has added another feather in his cap.

The maestro’s composition from the 1981 Tamil film ‘Ram Lakshman’ will be played along with a few other samples of world music at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics 2012.

The track ‘Nanthaan Ungappanda’ composed by Ilaiyaraaja and rendered by S P Balasubrahmanyam is part of the 86 track playlist for the gala that is being directed by acclaimed Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle. The ceremony will be held on 27 July.

The opening ceremony titled ‘The Isles of Wonder’ will also feature tracks by artistes like Michael Jackson, Adele, Sex Pistols, M.I.A. (Mathangi ‘Maya’ Arulpragasam) and Amy Winehouse amongst others. Boyle plans to have a medley of songs for the event.
