Enrique Iglesias, the Spanish pop singer who has sold over 58 million albums worldwide, had his humble beginnings too. His nanny had to lend him $1800 when he was 17 for his first recording. Reason? He didn’t want his father, a successful musician himself, to know about his interest in music.
Enrique Iglesias started off his musical career intially by recording two English and Spanish songs in a demo cassette tape. He didn’t want his father Julio Iglesias, who has sold over 300 million records worldwide in 14 languages, to know about his plans for a musical career. After his parents divorce, Enrique was sent to stay with his father in Miami. Julios Iglesias who was always on tour never had to worry about Enrique knowing that Nanny would took care of him. The strained relationship between father and son, which has been for quite a few years, seems to have now dissipated. Enrique admits that things are much better though they still speak very little.
Enrique is very grateful to his Nanny who has been there for him right through his childhood. “When the time came for me to do a demo, I was 16,17. I didn’t have $1,800 with me so I asked her and she was nice enough to give it to me. She took care of me for the first 25 years of my life and now I take care of her,” Enrique said.
