Regarded as one of India’s definitive live electronica producers, Donn Bhat will release his third album, Connected, on September 28 as an exclusive stream on premium streaming platform, Saavn. The album will be made available on Bandcamp, iTunes and OKlisten.com starting October 5, 2016.
The seven-track album will be launched with a six-city tour that includes an appearance at Ziro Festival in Arunachal Pradesh on September 24.
Connected, the album
Making music that’s distinctive but difficult to slot into genres, Mumbai-based producer Donn Bhat has revelled in the freedom that comes with escaping easy classification. Donn Bhat’s second album, Passenger Revelator, released in 2014 and was a curious blend of disco, pop, funk rock and electronica. In June 2015, Donn Bhat performed at Glastonbury, one of the world’s most famous music festivals, with his band Donn Bhat + Passenger Revelator.
His third album, Connected, sees the versatile producer and composer continue his sonic experiments in a manner that’s assured and at peace with his genre-agnostic approach. Working with his favorite collaborators and long-time friends like vocalist Toymob aka Ashhar Farooqui, percussionist Anand Bhagat and Indian classical musician and sarangi player Suhail Yusuf Khan,Connected is an effortless mix of different tempos, and of different genres.
“This album is a diary of a certain time in my life. It is a further exploration between electronica and acoustic instruments combined with lyrical song-writing. It continues where the last album left off and I’ve had the luxury of collaborating and featuring my favorite musicians for the album like Toymob and Suhail Yusuf Khan,” says Donn Bhat.
Prominent Kolkata-based producer Miti Adhikari has mixed four tracks on the album.
The album’s themes cover modern day relationships, the current political environment and contemplative lyrics about life and humanity.
