The legendary A.R. Rahman and Gulzar have teamed with seven star singers to regale us with “Meri Pukaar Suno”, a spectacular piece of music which is a beautiful ode to hope, something we definitely need at a time like this. “Meri Pukaar Suno” features an All-Star cast of vocalists such as Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, KS Chithra, Sadhana Sargam, Shashaa Tirupati, Armaan Malik and Asees Kaur. These fantastic singers channelize the call of Mother Earth as she asks all her children to unite and withstand these testing times with courage.
Speaking about the track’s musical creation, A.R. Rahman said: “This time, this period of the pandemic, is an extraordinary phase in everyone’s life. There is so much uncertainty and pain, and yet, so much resilience and healing. Gulzar ji and I wished to create a song of hope because we all need comfort and reassurance. ‘Meri Pukaar Suno’ is like Mother India singing to her children through her daughters. It’s to say that human beings have survived and thrived through different periods of time and that we’ll emerge through this bravely.”
Legendary lyricist Gulzar, who has penned the words for the song, said: “This is a story about Maati Maa, our Mother Earth, as she appeals to us to listen to her. She gives us hope with her bountiful resources, cool breeze, flowing streams and endless sunshine; asking us for a promise to look after our gift of life. Rahman sahab has given my words a truly magical composition as always.”
On “Meri Pukaar Suno”, A.R. Rahman and Gulzar combine their legendary talents and channel them through the voices of the stellar star cast of singers. Everyone involved with this project is a technical powerhouse. However, “Meri Pukaar Suno” offers far more than top notch technical abilities. A.R Rahman has managed to utilize his seemingly telepathic touch with music to combine the style, artistry and talents of these virtuosos to create a perfectly balanced, and fascinating entity. It’s a thing of absolute beauty and sheer joy. Will it last forever? Of course, it will.
